Glam-O-Mamas was thrilled to sit down with Gaëlle Wizenberg, creator of Charlie Banana®, a collection of baby and children’s products that combine eco-friendliness, quality, and design in one brand.

In creating Charlie Banana®, Gaëlle drew inspiration from her own two children: her son, Zachary, and her daughter, Charlie – or “Charlie Banana”.

Charlie Banana® manufactures and distributes their own items so they can control everything from start to finish. Having their base in Hong Kong places them next door to their manufacturers which allows them to reduce their carbon footprint and shipping costs for their customers around the world.

At Winc Design Ltd. (Charlie Banana® parent company) it is Earth Day every day! They actively promote waste reduction and have gained tremendous support from major retailers around the world.

We asked Gaëlle to clear up some common misconceptions about cloth diapers and explain why cloth diapering truly is best for your baby and the planet.

 

G-O-M: Why should people choose to use cloth diapers?

Cloth is amazing and for many parents, life changing when they have a baby! Parents should choose cloth diapers because are so easy-to-use! Most parents don’t realize how modern, fashionable and healthy cloth diapers are. Babies are happier in cloth because there are no chemicals, therefore NO RASHES, they sleep much better being so comfortable. The cost saving is enormous as you only have the initial start up costs versus constantly going to the store to purchase diapers. And the eco factor is huge – parents prevent nearly 6,000 diapers per child from being trashed in the landfill.

 

 

Most people think that cloth diapering is “too difficult”. What is your answer to this?

Cloth diapering is a lot easier than most people think in my opinion. Most parents who are not familiar with cloth have never tried it and are really just intimidated by the different brands and options. They have not seen the new products out there that make it as easy, if not easier than disposable diapers. Plus, Charlie Banana® diapers offer a disposable insert, which is a great way to dip your toes into cloth diapering.

What made you decide to get into manufacturing cloth diapers?

I fell in love with cloth diapering when my son was just a baby.. I realized how easy and misunderstood cloth diapering truly is –  and it fueled my passion to push for a modern, luxurious worldwide brand.

EXPERT Charlie Banana® cloth diaper washing and care tips:

We recommend using baking powder and 1/4 cup of white vinegar in the wash cycle. We love Charlie’s Soap as it leaves no residue and makes diaper sparkling bright white.

Any good eco friendly soap that leaves no residue is perfect to use. We also recommend air-drying in the sun when possible as it naturally bleaches the inserts and is better for the environment.
